The Black Dragon Challenge Walk (BDCW) event first took place in April 2019 and replaced the Black Mountains Roundabout (BMR) which had been running on an annual basis since 1982.
The 2024 Black Dragon Challenge event will be held on Saturday 20th April.
The challenge walk which starts and finishes at Llangorse Community Centre, Llangorse, Brecon LD3 7TR (GR SO 13322770) W3W: cocktail.countries.overlaid follows the high ridges of the challenging Black Mountains taking in the highest point at Waun Fach at 811 metres.
There are 3 routes available, 30 miles (49k), 26 miles (42k), and 19 miles (30k) – see The Route Page
All three routes visit the highest point in the Black Mountains, Waun Fach at a height of 811 metres.

Your map will change from your sworn enemy to your new best friend. As a runner, unlocking the map will give you confidence to plan new routes, open up new terrain and joyously discover new places.

The Big Black Mountain Challenge returns for 2024
All funds go to keep Longtown Mountain Rescue Team going. They were originally formed in 1965 to help people in difficulties within the Black Mountains. The role of the team has now expanded to include a wide variety of potential situations, where the police consider our assistance and expertise would be of benefit.
Entries open on the 1st February 2023…last years event was sold out within 2 week so be prepared.

This is a glorious inclusive weekend for women of all running abilities. You choose the level that you work at, and we provide a positive confidence-building environment for you.
There’ll be supportive fell running input, MapRuns, route-planning exercises and a lot of learning by doing as well as two yoga classes at the end of each day. Expect some great input to give you the confidence to plan new routes, open up new terrain and joyously discover the Black Mountains.

Come and take on the Table Mountain in the Black Mountains of Wales. The 10 hour 4-mile strenuous and technical loop race is a test of endurance and determination.
This is only for the brave!
Last year we saw some truly remarkable performances – let’s see if anyone can beat last years record of 9 loops!

Park Farm Llangattock is once again the perfect starting point for this – the third in our Beast series. Leaving the field you head via a small but steep lane which leads onto a small section of the Brecon and Monmouthshire canal. Minutes later you will be on the trail through fields and ancient walkways, before climbing to the top of the Llangattock Escarpment. Views here are out of this world! the climb will be worth it that we promise.
